2006 Christmas Tree Contest

Or first place winner this year was our Warehouse team who raised $850 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital which treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases without regard to the family's ability to pay.

Our local St. Jude chapter was instrumental to their decorated office by sending marketing items, brochures, pictures, children's by-lines, ornaments and teddy bears which were sold to help raise money. The warehouse employees also donated decorations & goodies.

For that special touch, our warehouse folks were able to bring back ELVIS to perform live in our warehouse! A true Holiday Spirit was felt by all and we hope to have saved many from having a "Blue Christmas".

Unicef

Our Engineered Solutions Group received the honor of runner up with their great work for Unicef. The shop was turned into Santa's workshop along with snow falling from the ceiling. Santa Claus made a special appearance handing out candy canes and spreading good cheer to all! The group raised over $500!

Our Accounting department raised over $450 for the Chesapeake Animal Control Unit which supports responsible pet ownership, humane treatment of animals, equipping pets with identification at all times, compliance with statutes and ordinances for the control and protection of animals, spaying and neutering, and control of pet overpopulation.

The group raised money by selling doggie ornaments and chocolate “paw” lollipops. They also purchased and donated items for the shelter such as food, toys, newspapers, and towels for the animals. All monies donated to the shelter will be used for vaccinations, medicine, and the treatment of sick and injured animals.

A bulleting board of animals up for adoption was posted next to the tree. And as an extra special touch, a puppy up for adoption came to visit for part of the day!

Our Sales department raised over $300 for the Military Order Of The Purple Heart by using donated items for a raffle and holding a silent auction for a world famous Joanne's cake of their choice.

Employees also collected and donated boxes of slightly used clothing. Our own Julie Hart also donated her time wrapping presents for people for donations to their charity. We'd like to thank Julie for her special talent that she uses every year for good causes.

A special thanks to our own Ken Williams who donated a wheel chair for a semi-homeless man name Roger. The sales crew purchased a new cushion for the chair and now Roger is on the go!

The Sales Support team chose the CANDII House which has now merged under Access, AIDS Care Center for Education & Support Services. CANDII House served women and children and provided family centered services throughout all stages of the disease. Over 150 children in Hampton Roads area were supported this past year alone.

The tree was decorated with candy ornaments for sale along with candy bars and home baked goods every day! The star of the tree made of 5 large Hershey kisses was raffled off and a "Guess How Many M&M's in the Jar" game was played for 25 cents per guess. Overall the team raised over $500!
