The mission of The Dwelling Place is to provide safe and secure emergency shelter for homeless families and assist them in achieving self-sufficiency. Since starting our program in November 2003, the employees at Jo-Kell have been active in helping the shelter on a regular basis.

Our contributions have included:

• Adopting room # 8 at the Newport House and refurbishing it with new beds and linens.

• Landscaping and sprucing up their playground area.

• Holding frequent clothing and household furnishing drives that are donated to the shelter.

• Donating 6 beds, mattresses and 3 dressers.

• Making “Intake Bags” to help families feel welcome upon first entry to the shelter.

• Having every employee at Jo-Kell sign up for the Food Lion MVP card and place The Dwelling Place as our non-profit organization in the shop and share program.

• Sponsoring a hole at the 1st Annual Dwelling Place golf outing, as well as donating gifts for golf participants.

• Purchasing a sewing machine for the shelter.

It is the mission of Jo-Kell to make a positive and lasting impact on our community. We strive to continue doing this through The Dwelling Place. Knowing that we are supporting a shelter that helps Chesapeake families is very important to us. We look forward to continuing our support for The Dwelling Place in the future.
