Mayflower Marathon Food Donation Drop-Off November 18, 2011
Jo-Kell delivered nearly five thousand pounds of food to the Mayflower Marathon food drop-off sponsored by 106.9 the FOX radio station. Jo-Kell CEO, Suzy Kelly had an opportunity to talk to the afternoon DJs about Jo-Kell’s food drive which started on October 3rd and continued through November 10th. Employees collected almost two and a half tons of food for the Southeastern Foodbank.

Chesapeake Jubilee May 20, 2011
Jo-Kell employees were “Cookin’ for Cops” again this year at the Chesapeake Jubilee. Employees grilled hamburgers and hotdogs all weekend long for officers as well as volunteer Marines who worked the Jubilee weekend. The grill will return for next year’s Jubilee!

Operation Cookie Drop
Jo-Kell’s Arthur Hernandez has been serving our country in Iraq for the past year. Jo-Kell employee’s along with a match from the owners recently purchased almost 300 Girl Scout cookies for Arthur and his troop in Iraq! The cookies will be sent in several care packages. “Flat Arthur” posed with employees and management for a photo kicking off “Operation Cookie Drop”.

Jo-Kell Presents Donations to Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia February 14, 2011
Jo-Kell presented the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia with a certificate reflecting the total amount of all food collected by employees during their month long food drive in October. Jo-Kell employees donated nearly 5,000 pounds of food, which provided over 3,000 meals in the community. Additionally, the Jacksonville branch collected over 500 pounds for their local food bank. Present from the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia was Chief Marketing Officer, Susan Mayo; Community Events Manager, Debbie Mergi and Chief Philanthropy Officer, Marianne Smith-Vargas.

Jo-Kell Employees presented St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children with a check for $7,000. The company matched the monetary donations of their 47 Chesapeake employees from the fund drive. Present from St. Mary’s were Director of Development, Martha Stewart and Director of Annual Giving, Mary Helen Hilton.

Jo-Kell Presents Pet Oxygen Kits to Norfolk Fire & Rescue July 2010
Jo-Kell CEO, Suzy Kelly along with members of the Jo-Kell Sales Support team presented pet oxygen kits to the Norfolk Fire & Rescue. The team raised funds for animal oxygen masks kits for local firehouses to have on hand to assist domestic animals in distress at fire scenes. They started out with a goal of raising enough money for ten kits by organizing several fundraising events throughout the company. Some of the events were; a raffle drawing with gift certificates donated by area restaurants, a soup tasting competition and they also sold football squares. When the fundraising was wrapped up, the team surpassed their goal of ten kits and raised enough money for twenty!

Chesapeake Jubilee, May 2010
Jo-Kell employees served up hamburgers and hotdogs again this year to those who serve and protect us! Chesapeake Police officers as well as volunteer Marines who worked the Jubilee weekend, were able to stop by the Jo-Kell tent and grab a quick dog and burger before going back and overseeing the Jubilee crowd. This year was extra special since Jo-Kell CEO, Suzy Kelly was this year’s Jubilee Chairman! Look for the Jo-Kell grill next year!

Jo-Kell CEO Raises Money for Friends of Chesapeake Animal Services, April 30, 2010
Jo-Kell CEO, Suzy Kelly, participated in the second Great Stray Roundup, benefiting the Friends of Chesapeake Animal Services. Suzy, along with Chesapeake Mayor Alan Krasnof and Police Chief Kelvin Wright, was voluntarily “locked up” and had to make “bail” through donations from friends and family.

Jo-Kell Receives Certificate of Appreciation from Stand Up For Kids, Feb 9, 2010
Jo-Kell was first introduced to Stand Up For Kids when they sponsored the local charity during their annual Christmas contest. Since then, the employees of Jo-Kell have donated a meal once a month to the organization which reaches out to runaways, homeless and at-risk teens through the age of twenty one. The safe haven, known as “The Crow’s Nest” is located on the Virginia Beach Oceanfront and is run by Stand Up For Kids and their partners, Seton House.

Jo-Kell “Frost Stars” Plunge for Two Great Reasons Feb 9, 2010
The snow and freezing temperatures didn’t stop the Jo-Kell “Frost Stars from plunging into the frigid waters of the Atlantic for the 18th Annual Polar Plunge at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Not only did the Jo-Kell team plunge to support the Special Olympics of Virginia, but they wore their Pittsburg Steeler’s jerseys in honor of their good friend and co-worker, Seth Howard who recently passed away and was a huge Steeler’s fan and Polar Plunger! Jo-Kell raised a record amount of thirty eight hundred dollars!

Jo-Kell CEO Joins Governor Bob McDonell in Support of Foodbank Jan 11, 2010
Jo-Kell CEO, Suzy Kelly along with COO Adrian Marchi joined Governor Bob McDonnell at the Southeastern Foodbank on January 11, 2010. The Governor made several stops while in Hampton Roads including the Foodbank. Volunteers wearing “I’m Feeding America” T-shirts, filled oversized bags with cans of beef stew, Fig Newtons, chocolate milk and snack pudding. The struggling economy triggered a huge rise in the number of people relying on charity to keep from going hungry.

St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children “Tribute to Elvis” Benefit November 21, 2009
Jo-Kell sponsored the 2nd annual “Tribute to Elvis” benefit featuring Sterling Riggs and the TKC Band.  Proceeds from the benefit went to St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children. The benefit, which was held at River Oak Church in Chesapeake raised $1500 for St. Mary’s!

Jo-Kell employees participated in St. Mary’s 21st Annual 5K Run and Fun Run. Twenty Jo-Kell employees and their families helped to raise money for St. Mary’s!  The race was held at Fort Story military base in Virginia Beach.

Jo-Kell Donates Shore Power Unit to Help Restore Historic Vessel June, 2009
Jo-Kell donated a shore power interface unit to the Zuni Maritime Foundation for the restoration of the U.S.S. Zuni ATF-95.  The Zuni Maritime Foundation has acquired the decommissioned World World II salvage tug which towed warships all over the South Pacific during the war. Jo-Kell designed and assembled the shore power unit that will enable the Zuni to run on full power while pier side without having to use a generator.  This will save diesel fuel as well as help the environment by limiting pollution.

Friends of Chesapeake Animal Services Rummage Sale June 27, 2009
Jo-Kell employees raised $1,131 for the Friends of Chesapeake Animal Services at their 1st Annual Rummage sale held at Jo-Kell’s home office in Chesapeake. There were plenty of items on hand and people could also purchase animal licenses as well as personalized dog biscuits for their pets!

St. Matthews Carnival Cake Judging
St. Matthews School held it’s 23rd Annual Carnival on May 2nd. Jo-Kell CEO, Suzy Kelly along with fellow judges were asked to pick the winning cake among several hundred entries. This year’s theme was magic. Judges were tasked with the challenge of selecting the most creative and original cakes.

Special Olympics Virginia – Polar Plunge
Employees of Jo-Kell Inc., an electrical distribution and engineering Company, raised over $3,000 dollars for Special Olympics of Virginia in the 16th Annual Polar Plunge on February 3, 2008 at the Virginia Beach oceanfront. This year’s team, the Jo-Kell “Frost Stars,” consisted of thirteen employees along with their family members. Employees were able to count on their friends and family as well as non-plunging co-workers to help raise funds for the annual plunge into the frigid waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
